Metta Fund is dedicated to...
Providing Access to Healthcare
More than 70,000 San Franciscans are without a specific source of care, a clinic or a doctor to whom they can turn when ill. That’s 70,000 people who are less likely to have access to regular checkups and run an increased risk of complications caused by delays in seeking treatment.
The Metta Fund supports programs which aim to decrease the number of San Franciscans without a source of care and remove the financial, structural and personal barriers which limit access to healthcare.
Supporting Healthy Behaviors
Childhood obesity, diabetes, asthma and other health problems are on the rise. In San Francisco, only half of San Francisco’s teens are involved in vigorous physical activity and only one third of our 7th graders are physically fit. These patterns will likely continue into adulthood, contributing to a lifetime of poor health.
The Metta Fund supports programs which encourage young people to take care of their physical and mental health through exercise, education and the dissemination of information.
Violence Prevention
As in cities across America, violence blights the lives of too many San Franciscans. Over 6,000 violent crimes were committed annually during the last documented period with serious violence highly concentrated in several parts of the city.
Violence has its root causes in both individual behaviors and social conditions, and the Metta Fund supports groups that tackle these root causes of violence through intervention and education.
Improving Quality of Care
Quality of care varies across providers but numerous studies show that physician groups which maximize their use of information technology both to manage patient populations and to standardize procedures at the point of care consistently outperform those who do not.
Both patients and the community benefit when the quality of health care and information are improved. The Metta Fund supports organizations which promote improved health outcomes particularly through the use of information technology.
